A Thought About “Letting go and letting God.....”

"Let the Lord have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking of you and watching over everything that concerns you." 1 Peter 5:7 TLB

Rest.....just rest in the Lord!

Ever notice how much energy it takes to hold on really tight to something for any length of time? We clench to the heavy loads that we carry around with us, sometimes not even realizing how heavy they are and how much they weigh us down until we buckle under the load. You know of what I speak, the situations, circumstances, pressures and people that you have no control over in your life?

So why not just let go and let God take care of all that concerns you. You'll be amazed at how much more energy you'll have, and how much easier life will be. Once you make the choice to leave it all in God’s very capable hands, the load is carried for you....no strings attached, no more weights to bring you down..
.
A. W. Tozer, a great Christian and Missionary Alliance Pastor wrote: "Father, my cowardly heart fears to give up its toys.  I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from You my terror of the parting.  I come trembling, but I do come.  Please root from my heart those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that You may enter and dwell there without a rival."

So how do we do that? What can we do to “let go and let God”?

First, let God handle your life!  Place it all before the Lord.  Find your identity, contentment, security, position, popularity, your prestige, all of who you are, in him. It is not too much for him to handle.  He will handle it all with great precision; a wonderful design that he established for your own good before the beginning of time.

Second, let God handle your future!  Place your plans all in his hands and be ready for him to do wonderful things.  However, placing your trust in him also means being ready for God to rearrange things and take you along paths that may be uncomfortable for you.  Remember that this life is only 75-85 years, if we are even fortunate to live here that long.....nothing this side of heaven is permanent, including relationships.  Enjoy the time you have with the ones you love, but avoid the temptation to find your significance in anyone other than him,  because even they too will someday be taken away.

Third, let God handle your pain!  If your emotions are wrapped around some issue involving a possession, a job, a particular expectation or a relationship, you aren't fully relying on the Lord. You are depending on lesser things.  So........stop.  Surrender it all to the only one who knows what is best for you and is competent enough to handle your very life and all it includes, perfectly! You may just be delaying a wonderful surprise that God has waiting for you.

I hope to have more to say about this......soon.

  1. I've always wondered why we work so hard to hold on to the very things that cause us to be in turmoil. It's like we believe if we hold on to them tightly enough, they can't sneak up on us and cause any surprises. And yet by holding on to them, we're giving them the very power that we're hoping to keep them from gaining over us. This is such a great post. If only we can have the courage to let them go... to place them in His more-than-capable hands... we can be free. Free to rest, free to hope, free to live.
